Cannabis for Healthcare Professionals

In partnership with Radicle Heath, a self-paced, recorded curriculum package is now available to ACNA Members. 

This course presents foundational subjects - such as the ECS, cannabinoids, terpenes, extraction methods, routes, dosing, and so forth - and also includes information describing:

  • The 6 principles of essential knowledge published by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing;
  • Considerations specific to using cannabis to treat the geriatric population,
  • How to use cannabis to help patients treat chronic pain;
  • Cannabis pharmacology, including an in-depth description of the cell receptors, enzymes, ligands, and drug transporters relevant to cannabinoid pharmacodynamics. This module also includes a description of the absorption, metabolism, distribution, and excretion of cannabinoids. It describes how clinicians and patients can use genetic polymorphisms as data points for predicting patient response and for mitigating the risk of adverse effects, especially in cannabis-naïve patients. And, this module describes the drug interactions that should be considered when working with cannabinoids; and
  • How to assess cannabis patients and what best practices you should consider when dosing patients with cannabis.

Online Continuing Education Courses

  • The District of Columbia Center for Rational Prescribing provides information about medications and other therapeutic options to physicians and healthcare professionals.
